Step 1
Lay 2 pieces of ribbon down, vertical first then horizontal. If using velvet lay right sides up. Take the vertical piece closest to you and fold over to the top left or right (which side you choose dictates the next move).
Step 2
Since I went to the left, I will take the next ribbon piece to the left or anti clockwise.
Step 3
Again moving around anti clockwise, take the vertical piece down towards you. Leave the weave loose to make the next step easier.
Step 4
For the last piece you want to go over and under.
Step 5
Then pull to secure the weave. I found the shape was more sturdy if I did 2 box layers and as you can see the first box will be wrong side upwards.
Step 6
Starting again with the vertical piece closest to me, noting this time it is on the right side of the box.
Step 7
Side that was on the right I’ll be moving clockwise, taking the next ribbon to the right.
Step 8
Secure it again by going over and under.
Step 9
You can make a bunch of different color combinations and sizes for different gifts.
Step 10
For the back, I found the neatest option was putting down some small pieces of double sided tape and sticking the edges down flat also mimicking the weave on the front.
